Privacy notice
GatorPlanner is a student-built planner for University of Florida classes. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Florida. We collect as little as we can, use it only to plan your schedule or degree, and keep only the classes you choose to save and what the degree planner’s limits need.
The Chrome extension
The extension connects GatorPlanner to your own ONE.UF account. It moves your UF degree audit into GatorPlanner’s degree planner, and it shows live open-seat counts for the classes you’re planning.
What it reads
- It runs on
one.uf.edupages so it’s ready when you open your degree audit, including when ONE.UF switches pages without a reload. On those pages it reads one thing: the response to ONE.UF’s degree audit request (the request ending in/loaddegreeaudit/). It doesn’t read other ONE.UF pages, other websites, your browsing history, your password, or your login cookies. - While a GatorPlanner tab is open, it asks UF’s Schedule of Courses (
one.uf.edu/apix/soc/schedule) for the open seats and waitlist counts of the classes you’ve planned or selected, at most every couple of minutes. Your browser sends those requests with your own ONE.UF login, the same way the Schedule of Courses page does. The counts are shown only in that GatorPlanner tab; they aren’t sent to GatorPlanner’s server or anyone else, and the extension forgets them within a minute. - It reads nothing until you agree to the notice shown the first time you open it. Until then, it doesn’t process your audit or send it anywhere. It only keeps the latest audit response in the ONE.UF page’s own memory, where the page already holds it, so it can pick up an audit already on screen once you agree. That copy is gone when you close or reload the tab.
What it removes
Before your audit leaves the ONE.UF tab, the extension deletes your name, UFID, student and employee IDs, email, grades, grade points, and GPA. What remains is your programs (major, minor, catalog year), the requirements in your audit and whether they’re met, and the courses you’ve taken or are taking (course, credits, and term).
When it sends anything
- Only when you click Open in GatorPlanner. It then opens GatorPlanner in a new tab and hands it the redacted audit. It waits in your browser’s memory for at most 10 minutes, or until that tab takes it or closes.
- Copy puts the same redacted audit on your clipboard for you to paste into GatorPlanner yourself. Nothing is sent.
- Save as .json saves the same redacted audit to your computer. Nothing is sent.
What it stores
Only whether you agreed to this notice, in Chrome’s extension storage on your computer. Use Withdraw consent in the extension, or uninstall it, to remove that.
The GatorPlanner website
Degree planner
The degree planner needs a GatorPlanner account. Each account can build a limited number of plans, and each device can use the planner with one account. To enforce that, GatorPlanner keeps, under your account:
- how many plans you’ve built;
- a random device ID your browser keeps in a cookie and in local storage (
gp_device); - a fingerprint of your browser: a one-way hash of traits like screen size, time zone, graphics card, installed fonts, and how your browser draws a test image. The traits themselves never leave your browser.
The server stores only hashes of the device ID and fingerprint. They’re used for this limit and nothing else: never for tracking, advertising, or recognizing you on other sites.
When you build a degree plan, your audit (from the extension, a paste, or a file) goes to GatorPlanner’s server for that one request. The server reduces it to your programs, completed courses, and unmet requirements. It removes your name, UFID, grades, and GPA again if they’re present. It sends that summary, your planning preferences, and any notes you type to Anthropic’s Claude API to write the plan. Emails and ID-like numbers in your notes are removed first. GatorPlanner doesn’t save or log your audit, notes, or plan. When you close or reload the page, they’re gone.
Anthropic processes that request as our service provider under its commercial terms and privacy policy.
Accounts and saved classes
Signing in is optional for the week planner. If you sign in, GatorPlanner saves the classes in your week schedules (course, section, and color, for each semester) under your account so they come back on your next visit. Only you can see them, and removing a class removes it from what’s saved. Your degree audit and degree plans are never saved to your account.
Sign-in is run by Clerk as our service provider, which keeps your email address, name, and sign-in details under its privacy policy. GatorPlanner’s server receives only your Clerk user ID with each request, to know whose classes and plan count to load and save. For the degree planner, it also asks Clerk for your account’s verified email addresses, to check that one is a UF address. It doesn’t store them.
Everything else
- Browsing courses and building a week schedule needs no account. Signed out, your schedule lives only in your open tab.
- GatorPlanner’s server logs each request’s path, status, and timing, but not your IP address or what you sent. To limit degree plans per person, it keeps your IP address in memory for up to an hour.
- No analytics, advertising, tracking cookies, or third-party trackers. Clerk’s cookies only keep you signed in, and the
gp_devicecookie is only for the degree planner’s one-account-per-device limit.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your data, or share it for advertising.
- Use it for anything except building your plan, or to decide credit-worthiness or lending.
- Let other people read it. The only things kept are the classes you save and, for the degree planner, your plan count and device hashes. Only you can see your classes.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes
If our data practices change, we’ll update this page and the extension will ask for your consent again before it reads anything.
